My Ideal U.S. family “Great Getaway”

With all the snowy white I have seen lately I am definitely starting to dream of a great getaway vacation! My husband and I were just actually talking this morning about taking a family trip this summer with our kids.  It's been a few years since our last trip so we want to do something special this time.  My dream is to head down to the Great Smoky Mountains in TN.  I love the mountain views, and of course all the sites you can see there too. We've been there before, but my daughter was too young to remember so I am looking forward to taking a trip she will hopefully remember.  Heading down from Indiana isn't too far so if we leave early in the morning we'll be able to make it there by evening to enjoy a little bit of night life and relax.  This time instead of staying in a hotel I'd like to rent one of the Chalet Cabins out in the mountains so we have it all to ourselves and can be as loud (or as quiet) as we like! Just imagine it sitting in a couple of rocking chairs in the evenings sipping on cool iced tea!

Just writing this is making me want it even more.  Of course during the day we'd take trips to all the local sights (and outlet malls if mommy gets her way). Maybe a trip to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to enjoy all of the sights and sounds of nature! A good hick in the summer breeze can be so refreshing. And just incase it's raining we could use the Ripley's Aquarium as a back up plan. They have some really awesome underwater exhibits and interactive stations for the kids to keep entertained. We might even stop off and learn something new at the Guinness World Records Museum. Ripley's has an entire line-up of activities right in downtown Gatlinburg. You could even spend a few days just walking down the Gatlinburg strip visiting all of the unique shops they offer. So many great sights to see and places to visit!  How to fit it all in one week....that is where the early planning begins. Lucky for my husband I love planning these sort of things. He's one that says tell me where we are going and I will drive. So I am getting pretty good at finding all the hot places to go and places to stay.

  1. This dream visit to the Great Smoky Mountains in TN would be perfect for a family. My husband and I went about 3 years ago in the spring, but our stay was too short. I want to return to take in more of what this area has to offer. We are from Minnesota which has a very different landscape to 10,000 lakes.

  2. I love being in the mountains - one of my favorite places is eastern Kentucky, western West Virginia - home of the Hatfields and McCoys. The scenery is so beautiful and the history in the area is amazing.

  3. I would love to go there. It would be so scenic and relaxing.

  4. I have never been there but I would love to, it looks beautiful.

  5. We love to travel and have been to many places. I actually did not have the Smokey Mountains on my list but it is now. Thanks for the prompting.

  6. One of the most beautiful places on earth is the Great Smokey Mountains. I really hope you get to go there and enjoy yourself. Your family will love it. Mine did!

  7. This looks like a beautiful place to visit.

  8. Any place where you can get away from the noise of the city and headache of always being "connected" is worth the trip.
